HAIR TRANSPLANTS Hair transplants have been performed successfully
for more than forty years and are the only true permanent method of
hair restoration. Major advances in the use of follicular
unit hair grafts have dramatically improved the results. Gone are
the days of “plug-style” transplantation. One of the exciting
and unique benefits of hair transplants is that the transplanted hair
will continue to grow for the rest of your life.
The ultimate goal of MHR's hair transplant procedure is to provide
the patient with a natural look, maintaining virtually undetectable
results and optimal density without compromising the donor area.
MHR's experienced surgeons achieve aesthetic, natural looking hairlines
through customized follicular unit grafting and micro-grafting.
Using a crosshatching technique that was developed by Dr. Matt Leavitt
and the MHR surgeons, grafts are artistically placed at varied angles
and directions so that the hairline very closely resembles naturally
growing hair. Since no two hair transplants are alike, every treatment
plan is personalized to meet each patient's individual needs. We

EXACTLY HOW DOES TRANSPLANTATION
WORK?
When performed by our skilled MHR physicians, hair transplants
are easy on the patient. MHR surgeons exhibit refined artistic skill
and extraordinary attention to detail. The process begins with an
evaluation of the donor area. This is the area on the back and sides
of the head where hair follicles are genetically programmed not
to shed. Sufficient donor hair is needed for a successful transplant.
Then, a small section of tissue is removed from the donor area
and thoroughly examined under magnification. It is then dissected
into individual hair follicular units and micro-grafts. After the
hair grafts are carefully prepared, they are strategically placed
into bald or thinning hair areas. Single-hair follicular units are
placed at precise but varied angles in the frontal hair zone to
create a soft, natural looking hairline. More follicular units and
micro-grafts are placed behind the hairline, providing density and
volume to cover the larger balding areas. Placement of our grafts
is designed to resemble naturally growing hair.
FOLLOWING THE PROCEDURE
HEALED SUTURE LINE
A hair transplant procedure is completed on an outpatient basis.
The length of the procedure can depend on the amount of hair is
being transplanted. Patients leave the office wearing a bandana
since iti s important to protect the new grafts. As in nature, the
hair will grow slowly. The hair begins to grow at 3 months and will
continue to grow at the same rate as your natural hair. Results
are usually complete in ten to twekve months. The transplanted hair
will grow forever and does not require special maintenance.
HEALING AND RECOVERY
The scalp is very vascular, so immediately after the follicular
unit hair grafts and micro-grafts get transplanted, the surrounding
tissue begins feeding the transplant follicle and healing begins.
A slight scab forms on the exterior of the scalp, which usually
falls off after a week. The hair shaft may also shed, but the hair
follicles remain and often go into a resting phase. Medical Hair
Restoration was involved in research to speed healing of transplanted
hair and reduce the hair loss in the transplant graft, and as a
result offer GraftCyte products. Medical Hair Restoration reports
hair graft survival rates of near 100%.
GETTING THE RESULTS
In one to three months our patients begin to notice their new hair
growing. Normal growth rate is a half an inch a month. There's no
special care needed and you can cut it and style it any way you
want. Those days are gone when you had to worry about which way
the wind blew or your head getting wet. It's your hair and it's
just been moved from where you have it to where you don't! Transplanted
hair keeps right on growing. Amazingly, the hair follicle keeps
its original genetic coding, so it doesn't attract DHT (Dihydrotestoserone
- the cause of male-patterned baldness). Despite being moved into
a formerly bald area, it continues to behave like donor area hair.
The amount of hair that is restored depends on the patient's degree
of hair loss and their desired result. Some needs are met in one
hair transplant procedure while the goals of others may be best
achieved over multiple hair transplant surgeries.
